The grip closet
$50 flat, gear-closet access. 6 C-stands, 5 baby C-stands, 7 arms, a triple-riser, a preemie stand and a low boy. Apple boxes, 5 full, 2 half, 1 quarter. 11 sandbags. 4×4: 6 diffusion, 3 solid black flags, a full CTO gel frame. 3×2: a silk and 2 single nets. A 2×3 solid black flag and a 1.5×2 single net. Sparky’s lighting packages are in the warehouse.

Pre-packed and in house, on locked carts from Sparky’s Grip & Lighting. Book a kit with your studio date here and Sparky’s bills you for it. The grip closet goes on your Big Baby bill.
A 27×28, 756 square foot cyc under a 20×20 light grid, on 3,300 square feet of ground-level studio floor in Strathcona, built and run by art department people and open 24 hours a day.

03Good to know·The short version; full terms are in your booking agreement
How big a crew can I bring?
Rates are scaled by crew size, not production value. The small-footprint rate covers a crew of up to 5, with unlimited talent. Bigger productions can bring up to 90 on site: send a special request and we’ll quote it.
Do I need insurance?
Yes. Commercial General Liability insurance with a minimum of $2,000,000 CAD, listing Big Baby Studios as Additional Insured. Proof of insurance is required before access.
What’s the cancellation policy?
7 or more days before your date: full refund. Under 7 days: no refund. Under 24 hours: the full amount is owed.
House rules
Please don’t step on the curved cove corners or drag equipment; protective footwear is required. No open flames, drilling, painting the cyc or subletting without written approval (repaint fees start at $150 per affected wall or floor section). Quiet hours start at 10 PM and you’re responsible for any city noise complaints.
How should we leave the space?
Bag garbage in the bins, reset the furniture and sweep the floors. No confetti or glitter unless approved. Excess cleaning is billed at $50 an hour, and a lost key fob is $25.

Open doors.
Big Baby is a working studio first... but we believe a space like this belongs to its neighbourhood. We love collaborating with artists, makers and friends on the kind of one-off experiences you have to be in the room for: screenings, gallery shows and things that don’t have a name yet. If you have an idea, come dream it up with us.

From gallery openings and book launches to workshops, screenings, performances, launches, pop-ups and shoots, the cyclorama and studio floor flex to fit the night, up to 50 guests with unlimited talent on the floor.
We have a real soft spot for creative, community-minded gatherings, and we like getting in early to shape the idea together rather than just hand over the keys.
A few house notes: every booking is confirmed by email, and because the space is shared and cared for, we don’t sublet or run other businesses through it. Pick a date on the calendar above, then book a half day or a full day from the tickets at the top of the page, or request a quote for a larger function.

One night this spring the gallery walls rolled in, small works by local artists went up and the doors swung open... snack cart glowing, neighbours wandering in off Union Street. The first of many.
